Baptism

Why is Baptism Important?

As followers of Jesus, baptism is a symbol of the inner reality that a person has repented of their sins, accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and made a commitment to live with and in obedience to the Holy Spirit for the rest of his/her life.  It's also a symbolic celebration of turning from our old way of life (death), and being "resurrected" back to life with Jesus (Colossian 2:12)!

Baptisms are a celebration where a person publicly declares their love and devotion to Jesus. Either at Lifegroup, a special gathering, or a Sunday service, you will share why you want to get baptized, declare your faith in Jesus, and get baptized to celebrate their new life in Jesus' community (1 Cor. 12:12-13)!

WHO CAN GET BAPTIZED?

Jesus asks all believers to get baptized (Matthew 28:19) and we see in the early church how all new believers got baptized (Acts 2:38), so we invite you, if you have made a personal decision to follow Jesus to get baptized.

We generally baptize if you are 13 years old or older, though we definitely will consider younger children, if they are ready.  If a child wants to get baptized, the Kingdom Kids pastor will meet with the child and their parents to make sure the child understands what it means to be a committed follower of Jesus.

WHO CAN Baptize Others?

In the Bible, we see many people baptizing others (John the Baptist; Jesus’ disciples, Ananias, etc.). At Epicentre, we empower Pastors and Lifegroup leaders who have gone through a training to baptize others.
