Week 2: Experiencing the Father Heart of God

LOOKING BACK
  • Vision: this is a space for us to encounter God together, help each other follow Jesus,  and invite others to do the same.
  • Check in: How have you been doing this week? Where have you seen God move? What’s been challenging?
  • Following Jesus & inviting others:  How has God's Word been impacting you? How are you letting God work through you to draw others closer to him?

LOOKING UP
Discovery Bible Study: Luke 15:11-32
  • Have members summarize or retell the story in their own words.
  • What stands out to me from this passage?

LOOKING FORWARD
Practice & Application: Encountering the Father’s Love
  • Option #1: Ask each person to imagine themselves as a child going before God. Have them picture how the Father is receiving them.
    • Ask them to ask the Father, “How do you see me?”
    • Remind them to rest in the Father’s love for them.” *
  • Option #2: Ask each person to imagine themselves as the prodigal son going back to the Father after realizing he had sinned. Perhaps a real memory of committing a sin could be used.
    • How do you think God is seeing you as you come back to him? What do you imagine God saying to you or doing for you?

Prayer & Commissioning:
  • Pray for one another in the areas God is speaking.
  • Who are the people in your lives that need to encounter the Father’s love for them?
  • Between now and the next time we meet, what might it look like to help these people encounter the Father’s love?

*If they are unable to see anything, remind them of what they learned about God the Father in the passage and have them picture themselves as the son or daughter. You may need to work further to help unroot what is holding them back from seeing God the Father. If you need further help, reach out to those who are discipling you, or your Lifegroup leaders.
