Philippians Devos

Week 4, Day 3 - Philippians 4:8-9 | Focus Your Mind

Philippians 4:8-9 (hyperlink)
Devotional:
In Philippians 4:8-9, Paul encourages the Philippians to focus their minds on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. We can apply this to our own lives by intentionally fixing our mind on the things of God. Paul continues by inviting the Philippians to put into practice the things they have learned, received, and heard from him. Paul is inviting them to “walk this way”, to imitate what they have seen in him, his way of thinking and living that has allowed him to access the peace of God despite all circumstances.

Questions:
  • What stands out to you from the text?
  • What things are filling your mind? Examine what you take in: news, politics, TV, social media. How do these things contribute to the state of your mind?
  • How can you focus your mind on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy?
  • What from Paul’s life have you seen in Philippians that God is inviting you to imitate?

Prayer:
Jesus, I want to fix my mind on you. Help me to identify the things in my life that take my mind to places of fear, insecurity, worry, anger, etc. I lay down these things and choose to fix my mind on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.
